“In the closing track of Mitch Nelson’s release Walker, Nelson’s voice soars over an onslaught of walls of guitars, ‘I’ve never felt this strong,’ and you believe him. Over 8 minutes, Walker evokes the turn-it-off-and-on-again dynamics of the Pixies and the stomping drive of Dinosaur Jr., instruments hanging on by a thread to the metronome with a thrilling sense of urgency and desperation. Nelson’s vocals warble and wail as they barely escape the equally punishing 4/4 percussion that threatens to break into high-hat hissing almost danceable breaks, and with the closing chords of closer ‘Young Love’ fading into the ether, Walker can feel as if a locomotive has stormed straight through their living room and left behind beautiful carnage.”
